Following a recent trip to the cinema to see Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace I thought I would compile a list (in no particular order!) of my favourite 10 scenes from the Star Wars Saga. This was no easy task, as I am a massive fan of the franchise, but I feel below is a list of Star Wars' greatest scenes....of course, as usual if you agree or disagree (and I am sure many will!) voice off in the forum.

4th March 2012 KingofMetal79

Darth Maul vs Obi Wan vs Qui Gon

Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace

With the three way Jedi stand-off, double ended light sabres, Darth Maul and that music....the prequels had finally arrived. A truly stand out moment from the very average Star Wars prequels. Regardless of how you feel about Episode 1 (as a whole), if you are a Star Wars fan, this scene ticks all the boxes!

The Birth and Death of Darth Vader

Episode 3 - The Revenge of the Sith & Episode 6 - The Return of the Jedi

Darth Vader Birth

The placing of the mask on Vader and then its removal just prior to his death, form the bookends of the Luke/Vader storyline. Both amazingly emotional scenes and one of only a handful of genuinely moving scenes within the prequel trilogy - best forget about the whole "You killed Padme/No!" hammy, comedic conversation that follows between Vader and Palpatine. Face Palm!

"I Love You!" Han and Leia on Cloud City

Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back

Solo in Cuffs

This one off line has more emotion, passion, feeling and believability than all the teenage angst-esque, cringeworthy dialogue between Padme and Anakin combined. Simple, classy and cool. Truly a classic case of more is less. I guarantee everyone who see this wishes they had the suave and balls to speak such a line.

Opening of Star Wars: A New Hope

Episode 4 - A New Hope

A New Hope Opening Scene-Star Destroyer and Tantiv

A lot of people cite this as the greatest cinematic opening of all time and you'll be hard pushed to disagree. Never before in the history of cinema had the opening frames of a film been as epic, bombastic and as noisy!

"I am Your Father" Reveal

Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back

I am your father

With the internet these days and the feeling that you know all the "in's and out's" of a film before you arrive at the cinema, its hard to comprehend how revelatory this admission was  - Hang on...the galaxy's most evil villian is the protagonist's father?!?!? **Mind blown and jar shattered**. Stick that in you pipe and smoke it Mr Shyamalan! - A near perfect film with a bombshell of a revelation ending, nice.

Death Star 2 Assault/Endor/Vader vs Luke 2!

Episode 6 - The Return of the Jedi

The saga concludes with a triple prong assault on your senses. The emotional impact of the redemption of Vader, the 'little man' (Ewoks) toppling the heavily militerised Imperial forces and the spectacle of the Rebel fleet making one final stand against the Emperor's hellish Death Star 2. Incredibly exciting, wonderfully edited and the high point of the whole saga - My favorite 30 mins of celluloid ever. Fact. Now where is my Blu-Ray remote........
